Introduction
Zillow Data Exporter is not the only Chrome extension helping users download Zillow property listings to Excel.
There are quite a few extensions that already do that.
Some of them have been around for a while and new ones pop up every once in a while. Some extensions are paid and others are free like Zillow Data Exporter.
State of the extension market in 2022
If you type the search term Zillow on the Chrome Store, we find 3 results:
- Zillow to Excel (removed from Chrome storeon 2020-08-16)
- Zillow Redfin Realtor Real Estate Supercharge
- Homr Home Bookmark (Zillow Personal Advisor)

Zillow to Excel (removed from the Chrome store on 2022-08-16)
Unfortunately, the extension has been removed from the Chrome store as of 2022-08-16. I'll be leaving this review online for posterity or in the case that the extension were to be back in the Chrome store in the future.

Zillow to Excel seems to be the most popular extension to download Zillow listings currently as of August 2022, with more than 4000 users.
The reviews of this extension, on the other hand, paint a different picture. The average rating is only 3 out of 5.
The reviews themselves seem to indicate that the developer stopped updating the extension a while ago and does not maintain it anymore.

The consensus seems to be that the extension either does not work or works only every once in a while. We can also see that the extension was last updated on November 10, 2020, which supports the hypothesis that the extension creator(s) have stopped working on it.
After testing the extension myself, I found that it worked reliably about 20% of the time, which means that it was a frustrating experience.

This extension is a direct competitor of Zillow Data Exporter. It is also one of the reasons why I decided to create a new extension to download Zillow listings to an Excel file.
The users know that this extension is basically on life support, if not outright dead in the water, and are looking for a better alternative.
If you are not satisfied with Zillow to Excel, feel free to give Zillow Data Exporter a try. You won't regret it.
Zillow Redfin Realtor Real Estate
This extension is not a scraping or data-gathering tool but enriches the data present on the screen.
Most websites have a lot of data but most websites for one reason or another choose not to display all the data they have.
In this case, and according to the extension's description, it helps you make an informed real estate decision by showing extra data like nearby Natural Hazards and Crimes.
It does so by showing hidden data on Zillow and also by importing other data from third party sources and matching it with the listings on Zillow.
This information can help you make better decisions when buying a home.
This extension does not directly compete with Zillow Data Exporter.
It seems to be popular with more than 2000 users and seems to be well maintained, as the last update was done on the 10th of June 2022.
The extension's website, however, is a bit underwhelming and seems to be more of an FAQ than a website.
Homr Home Bookmark (Zillow Personal Advisor)
According to the description on the Chrome store, Homr does not seem to be a direct competitor to Zillow Data Exporter is an extension that helps you find, organize and decide which homes are the best. This extension can be a personal advisor for Zillow and other platforms.
It is not really clear from the description what this extension actually does. It has around 2000 users, so it is quite popular, but on the other hand it was last updated in July 2021.
Based on this fact alone, I would not recommend using this extension. Websites such as Zillow and other real estate marketplaces are always changing and the extension needs to be constantly updated to work with the newer version of the websites.
In this case, Homr does not seem to be a direct competitor to Zillow Data Exporter and therefore I will not investigate this extension any further.
Conclusion
It seems that our search term Zillow was not a good term. If we want to find more competitors we are going to need to update it to Zillow data export and see what kind of results we get.
Out of the three extensions we looked at, only one did what we were looking for. The other two are related to Zillow but address another need in the market.
Make sure to always do your own due diligence before installing an extension.
